Rings is Chip's first literary offering among many, many more to come. It is a story of passions and relationships surrounding the Washington Cavalry, the erstwhile Redskins of the National Football League.
Rings debuts in February 2015. New volumes will publish monthly thereafter.
Travis Blackwell earned Most Valuable Player honors last season as the fiercest offensive threat in the league. His jersey is the number one selling piece of merchandise. Endorsement deals flow. Late night television shows demand his appearance. He's frustrated that his hometown team has yet to offer a new mega-million dollar contract. The clean-shaven running back with the trademarked dreadlocks drinks in fans' adoration. At twenty-seven years old, he feels like American royalty and entitled to all that comes with it. Celebrity sends distractions his way.
Siobhan Blackwell knew from the time that she was a toddler in her neighborhood's sandbox that she and Travis belonged together. She never missed one of his football games in high school or college. She followed him to the University of Maryland instead of accepting an offer to attend Princeton, her parents' alma mater. The 5'9" beauty with her signature ponytail could pass as Halle Berry's 27-year old baby sister, but she is always too flustered with her six year old twins to notice the eyes of men glancing at her long legged figure.
Nadia Diaz is Siobhan's best friend going back to junior high school. She bought into Siobhan's dream to attend Princeton. Then, she screamed at her BFF when Siobhan announced that she was attending Maryland instead. Armed with an Ivy League MBA, Cuban beauty, and a man-eating will to succeed at all costs, the 5'2" Nadia traipses the globe in search of wealth to manage for her New York City-based investment banking firm. She occasionally slows down long enough to shop in Paris and Milan, engage in passion with her latest man-toy of the moment, and to dote on her God-children, Sara and Little Travis "LT" Blackwell. From the very first moment of meeting Travis back in high school, Nadia got a vibe about him and warned Siobhan. Years later, Nadia has no problem saying, "I told you so, chica."
And, with a high draft pick, The Washington Cavalry drafted Running Back Thor Johansson out of the University of Montana, angering their perennial superstar, Travis Blackwell. Thor brings size, strength, and Viking good looks to compete against Blackwell. Thor's Adonis-physique and flaxen hair that flows down his back from his helmet create a rabid following. On the side, he gigs as a romance novel model. Is it unintentional, or is it planned how he annoys Travis both in the locker room and on the playing field?
Delilah Gates covers the Cavalry as the local beat reporter. She puts the V in voluptuous. This 5'11" Brooklyn girl gives players whiplash as she stalks the sidelines in her stilettos and painted on jeans, uncovering their darkest stories. Nothing will stand in her way to someday anchor ESPN's Sports Center. However, will her appetite for muscled men sidetrack her ambitions?
Maxwell McGurt, the owner of the Washington Cavalry, is a West Point graduate and Gulf War veteran who made his billions in Texas oil fields and hedge funds. As an evangelical Christian, he demands discipline of everybody on his payroll. Unlike other owners who remain conspicuously in the background, McGurt monitors his investment up close and personal like a commanding officer that he once was in combat.
Rings chronicles the agents, lawyers, groupies, and others who love and hate the Washington Cavalry.
